This project is organically connected to the "ID:LA" series.

Based on a grid system that is reminiscent of a giant parking lot, Los Angeles was designed as a city to be driven through; parking lots and their identical numbering templates constitute an integral part of the urban fabric. A photographic series focusing on the "signs" of the city will naturally encompass these signs as well.

If one considers that Ulay made use of these parking lot spaces as some sort of information processing points during her photographic sessions to take pictures, to sketch or to edit, the organic bond between the stenciled numeric images of Parking Lot series to the "ID:LA"s signage documentation will be re-established.
